Funding joy for community groups

Hundreds of whānau in need across the Far North can look forward to some Christmas joy thanks to community board funding.

The Bald Angels Charitable Trust was granted a total of $6000 - $3000 each from the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board and the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board towards the group’s Christmas project.

The funding will be used to provide parcels and support to families struggling over the festive period. The trust expects to support around 400 whānau in the Far North, including around 1500 tamariki.

Kaikohe Yun Jung Do Development Trust was granted $1660 by KHCB towards its development camp at Lonsdale Park from 22-24 November. It is the organisation’s 30th camp and includes martial arts training, team challenges and confidence courses.

The board also granted $1360 to the Hokianga Bowling Club towards installing a safety barrier between the club house and green to prevent bowlers and spectators tripping or falling onto the bowling green.

Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board next meets on Thursday 28 November and the Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board meets on Friday 29 November. They can be watched live on the council’s Facebook and YouTube pages from 10am.
