VIDEO - Rubbish & recycling pop-up proves a summer hit
Boaties are redirecting tonnes of refuse from landfill thanks to a pop-up rubbish and recycling centre at Russell Kororāreka Wharf. The summer project is a joint effort involving key organisers, Resilient Russell Charitable Trust, the Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board, Northland Waste, Citycare, and Hone’s Pizza Garden and is sponsored by the council’s commercial arm, Far North Holdings Ltd, and the Kororāreka Russell Wharf Community Kaitiaki Trust. The centre is staffed by volunteers and is located at the end of the wharf every day from 8am-11am and 2pm-5pm until Sunday 19 January 2025. Find out how the programme is a winner for all parties involved in the video below.
