Public Notice of Trial on The Strand, Russell/Kororāreka to Begin 6 December
On display until: 06 June 2025
The Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board will begin a six-month trial on The Strand in Russell/Kororāreka on 6 December 2024. This trial aims to explore the benefits of a pedestrian-friendly environment by partially closing The Strand to vehicle traffic. Approximately 230m of the northern section of The Strand, past the Duke of Marlborough, will remain open as a shared space for pedestrians, cyclists, and vehicles. The remaining 210m section will be temporarily closed to vehicle traffic, while access for essential vehicles will be maintained.
Community feedback is essential to evaluate the success of this trial. Residents, visitors, and others can share their views through paper-based surveys available at local businesses along The Strand. Additionally, an online “Have Your Say” consultation will be open from 1 May to 22 May 2025.
