Kohukohu Plant Upgrade
Project details
Project details:
The Council plans to upgrade the Kohukohu wastewater treatment plant to improve the quality of the treated wastewater that is discharged to the Harbour.
The Regional Plan for Northland provides guidance and rules about the quality of the wastewater that can be discharged. When the current resource consent is renewed the discharge to water will need to meet strict quality standards.
Council’s engineers and planners explored options to upgrade the existing plant so that it can treat Kohukohu's wastewater to a higher standard. You can read the upgrade report here.
The preferred upgrade option for Kohukohu includes:
Task | Purpose |
---|---|
Remove sludge and vegetation from wetland | This will improve the treatment performance of the wetland. |
Install baffles in pond | This will increase the time that wastewater spends in the pond, and increases its exposure to treatment. |
Move the pond inlet to the north-east corner of the pond | This will increase the time that wastewater spends in the pond, and increases its exposure to treatment. |
