Ōpononi Resource Consent Renewal
Project details
Discharges from the Ōpononi wastewater treatment plant are managed by three discharge consents, one is for odour to air and the others are for seepage from the bottom of the treatment ponds and discharge of treated wastewater into to the Hokianga Harbour. The Council also has a resource consent for use of the harbour bed for an existing wastewater discharge pipeline. You can see a copy of the resource consents here.
An application has been made to the Northland Regional Council to renew these consents.
You can read the application here.
Council has commissioned the following reports to support the application:
A hydrodynamic modelling study of the wastewater discharges to assess the fate of contaminants discharged from the treatment plant to the Hokianga Harbour
- A public health risk assessment (or, quantitative microbial risk assessment - QMRA) of the discharge from the Ōpononi WWTP to understand the effects of the treated wastewater on health
- A cultural impact assessment to determine the adverse effects on cultural values.
You can read these reports here.
