Haititaimarangai Marae next in whenua Māori hui series
A third hui in a series aimed at Māori landowners, whānau and all those wanting to learn about preserving and managing whenua Māori will be held at Haititaimarangai Marae in Whatuwhiwhi on Friday 14 February.
The Haititaimarangai Marae hui will continue to build on the success of prior whenua Māori information sessions held in Panguru and Moerewa last year. A highlight of those events was the tailored advice provided to landowners by representatives of Te Kooti Whenua Māori / Māori Land Court. To complement this kaupapa, further information will be provided at Haititaimarangai Marae.
Council staff will also be available for one-on-one discussions to answer specific questions for whānau at the hui. Charlie Billington, Group Manager - Corporate Services, says the hui continue to share information and strengthen connections between the council and whenua Māori owners.
“Feedback from our previous sessions has been very positive. We’re excited to keep these conversations going and help whānau realise the potential of their whenua.”
The series kicked off in November at Waipuna Marae in Panguru followed by Ōtiria Marae in December and was memorable for the manaaki shown by both local communities. Thanks go out to all those who participated.
Details will be released later this year about further sessions, which are expected to be joined by Te Puni Kōkiri / Ministry for Māori Development.
Haititaimarangai Marae is located at 176 Whatuwhiwhi Road. Locals are encouraged to head straight inside upon arrival in time for a pōwhiri to be held at 3pm sharp.
