Project updates
The majority of physical works on Phase 1 have been completed. Work to complete the fields and open the site to the public is continuing.
Details of the work completed throughout the project is outlined in the sections below.
While no further funding has been allocated to this project, work that will run until 2025 includes:
- Cricket pitches to be completed in October 2024.
- Fields will be rolled, irrigation tested, and lawns will be finalised by end of November 2024.
- Fields grow-in phase will continue until the end of the year.
- Opening of fields for public early in 2025, subject to successful grow-in phase.
Carpark

- The foundations for the 15,000 square metre carpark have been completed.
- A base course layer of metal will be added to the carpark area before the final surface is added later in the year.
- The layout of four sports fields is now visible, where grass has been treated. This grass will be removed, a layer of soil trimmed form the top and stored onsite for later use for a professional turf surface to be developed.
- 500 metres of stormwater drainage has been laid beneath the fields and carpark areas.
- Manholes have been installed throughout the site.

- Partial road closure will be required on SH1 at the intersection of Kahikatearoa Lane for tree felling. This is scheduled for 9am on Tuesday 20 December 2022, and will take several hours to complete.
- Car park construction has started with 5,500m2 of topsoil stripped.
- Reinforced concrete drainage line is being installed at the eastern end of the car park.
- Two sediment control devices have been installed/shaped.
- Waterways have been diverted to ensure the sports fields will be free draining and dry all year round. This has been done under the supervision of cultural monitors.
- Clearing of farm drains, ready to back fill with excavated materials from the car park.
- A hard stand for the storage of equipment and aggregates has been created.
