Care still needed as weather event eases

An orange heavy rain warning and a severe thunderstorm watch have been lifted in the Far North but extra care is still advised if travelling around the district today.

Far North District Council contractors have been out since dawn, and there are no reports of major impacts to infrastructure. We are dealing with reports of flooding at Karikari Peninsula due to a blocked drain, a slip on Parapara-Toatoa Road at Taipā, and some flooding along Taratara Road in Kaitāia.

Rivers in the Far North continue to run high, but the majority have now peaked and are receding. While the worst of the weather has eased, hazards resulting from this weather may be present for the rest of the day as surface water and river levels recede.

Take extra care on the roads, drive to the conditions, increase your following distances, and turn on your headlights.

If you are aware of any weather-related issues, please contact the council on 0800 020 029.
