Vehicles on beaches provisions included in new Road Use Bylaw

Consultation is now closed.

We are seeking feedback on a proposal to include some of the provisions regulating vehicles on beaches in the new Road Use Bylaw rather than in a separate Vehicles on Beaches Bylaw.

The current Vehicles on Beaches Bylaw includes provisions to ban vehicles on specific beaches. Currently, the only beach where vehicles are prohibited is Coopers Beach.

The proposal is to continue the current situation, where vehicles are prohibited on Coopers Beach, but under a different bylaw – the new Road Use Bylaw. The proposal will also mean that the Council could restrict or prohibit vehicles on other beaches in the district.
However, Council can only consider prohibiting or restricting vehicles on a specific beach after engagement and consultation with affected communities.

This proposal only includes Coopers Beach, and the inclusion of other beaches would require a separate proposal and further consultation.

This process commenced last year when we asked for feedback on vehicle use on beaches in the Far North.
We are only seeking feedback on Part 8: Vehicles on Beaches, which has been inserted into the draft Road Use Bylaw. The remainder of the draft Road Use Bylaw has already been through public consultation.
