Land ahoy! Taipā Sea Scouts’ lease renewed
Doubtless Bay Sea Scouts' application to extend its ground lease at Taipā has been approved after public consultation.

Doubtless Bay Sea Scouts' application to extend its ground lease at Taipā has been approved after public consultation.
At the 14 March council meeting, elected members granted the 15-year ground lease to extend the troop’s existing use of Taipā Recreation Reserve.
Under the Reserves Act, the council must notify the public of any proposal to lease a recreation reserve and seek feedback. Public feedback took place from 2 to 30 November last year, with 15 submissions received. All supported the ground lease extension, with many pointing out the importance of encouraging young people to take part in community service and the organisation’s role in developing life skills.
The Doubtless Bay Sea Scouts has been based at the site since 1991 but has been serving the local community for more than 80 years. It operates under the Scouts Aotearoa umbrella and is a very popular organisation for young people in the area.
It aims to empower individuals ages five to 26 to lead impactful lives by developing physical, emotional, spiritual, and mental aspects in a safe and nurturing environment.
