The Far North’s three community boards have granted over $35,000 to sporting, cultural and community groups following their March meetings.

Te Hiku Community Board agreed to provide $20,000 to Coopers Beach Bowling Club to help concrete its carpark. This allocation will be made in two tranches: $10,000 in the current financial year and another $10,000 from next year's grant fund budget.
Meanwhile, Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board has assisted Hokianga Treks 4 kids with $2,800 to go towards maintaining a horse trek track, and to provide a safe and user-friendly track for the young children and youth of Rāwene.
A $5,812 grant from Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board will help with stage and audio hire costs for the 2023 Te Āhuareka o Ngāti Hine event at Ōtiria Marae from 31 March to 2 April.
Below is a full list of community board funding decisions made in March:
Te Hiku Community Board
- $20,000 to Coopers Beach Bowling Club towards concreting its carpark. $10,000 in the current financial year and another $10,000 from next year's grant fund budget.
- $7,393 to Kaitāia City Rugby and Sports Club towards the 125-year jubilee.
Kaikohe-Hokianga Community Board
- $2,800 towards Hokianga Horse Treks.
- $1,850 towards Rāwene Esplanade sand replacement and the Board amended the resolution that he will get that amount for the years of the triennium 22/23, 23/24 and 24/25.
Bay of Islands-Whangaroa Community Board
- $5,812 towards the cost of stage and audio hire for the 2023 Te Āhuareka o Ngāti Hine event at Ōtiria Marae from 31 March to 2 April.
All three community boards agreed to vary allocated funding to Far North Land Search and Rescue totalling $15,000. These funds can now be used over two years instead of one to help pay for the group’s lease on its Mid North Rescue Centre. You can read the full story here.
