It's important to know the different ways you can stay informed during an emergency – which radio stations to listen to and which websites and social media to follow. Check out this information is in the drop down menues below.
Before an emergency it's also important to be prepared and to check you can receive Emergency Mobile Alerts.
Local emergencies
Most emergencies are managed at a local level.
We will post regular local emergency updates on our FNDC Facebook page and to our website news story about the event.
We recommend you also monitor the Civil Defence Northland Facebook and listen to the radio.
Plan for how you will stay informed if the power goes out by ensuring you have:
- a battery or solar powered radio
- USB chargers and/or portable charging devices
- a plan to share information with your neighbours.
National emergencies
The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) is responsible for issuing national emergency updates and tsunami warnings. Tsunami warnings and information will be published on the National Emergency Management Agency’s website.
If the power goes out a solar or battery powered radio (or your car radio) can help you keep up to date with the latest news.
