Kawakawa Innovating Streets for People
Want to help improve road safety on Kawakawa's main street? Would you like to see our township become a pedestrian, cycle and traffic friendly place?
Thanks to a partnership between Waka Kotahi (NZTA) and Far North District Council, Kawakawa is one of three towns in the Far North to be included in a trial safety programme called Innovating Streets for People. The project will develop and trial several potential road safety measures on Kawakawa’s main street in early 2021.
At the 2019 NZTA planning meetings, many areas of improvement were discussed with the community. We considered the high crash/traffic sites through the busy SH1 township. This is a further opportunity for the community to discuss ideas relating to trial sites and issues such as parking, road safety, traffic and pedestrian flow and the beautification of Kawakawa’s main street.
