Cemeteries

There is a range of services and facilities for burials and memorials in the Far North. Public cemeteries are managed either by the Far North District Council or by a community committee. There are also graveyards adjacent to churches, iwi urupa and private burial grounds within the district. Customers should contact the church or iwi direct if the graveyard is not listed on this website.

Before filling out and submitting a online application for a burial (available in the drop down menues on this webpage), please consider the following:

  • Plot reservations by an applicant will only be permitted upon the burial of a family member (partner, child, sibling, grandparents) of the applicant.
  • Only one application per burial is allowed.
  • An applicant may reserve up to two additional plots next to the burial plot of the deceased, subject to availability.
  • However, the “Certificate of Title” issued for each plot must be registered to a single individual.  Where a second plot is reserved the “Certificate of Title”  must be registered to a different individual.

For any applications for burials, please complete either one of the following two forms:

Burial warrant casket application.

Burial warrant ash interment application.
