Water
Water is among the Far North’s most precious commodities. The Council provides treated water to eight communities: Kaikohe-Ngāwhā, Kaitāia, Kawakawa-Moerewa, Kerikeri-Waipapa, Ōkaihau, Ōmanaia-Rāwene, Ōpononi-Ōmāpere, and Paihia-Waitangi-Ōpua.
Most raw water is sourced directly from rivers and streams before treatment, although some supplies also use water drawn from underground aquifers or man-made reservoirs. All council water supplies meet New Zealand Drinking Water Standards. Taumata Arowai sets those standards and makes sure that drinking water suppliers (such as FNDC) provide safe drinking water. You can find out more about water standards on the Taumata Arowai website.
