Helping put junior teams on road to success

Applications are now open for rural junior sports teams to score some funding to help with travel around the Far North.

The Winter Rural Travel Fund subsidises travel for rural teams aged between five and 18, reducing cost as a barrier and making it easier for teams to compete in organised sporting events across the district.

The fund covers travel to and from regular sporting events, competitions, and practices within the Far North District. Teams can apply for up to half of their total travel costs for the upcoming season. Sport New Zealand provides half the funding.

Applications close on Friday 14 March and Far North District Council’s three community boards will consider the applications during their April meetings.

The fund’s guidelines and application forms are available on the council website. For more information, applicants can contact a funding advisor directly on 09 401 5775 or email funding@fndc.govt.nz.
