We maintain a range of facilities for Far North residents and visitors, including playgrounds, sports fields, swimming pools, walkways and reserves. We also own and maintain toilets, wharves and pontoons, cemeteries, libraries, community halls and housing for the elderly.

Community initiatives

Opportunities for our people to fund their own projects, drive new initiatives and help their communities thrive.

The America’s Cup races start on 6 March 2021 and will take place until the first team wins nine races. The Far North District was asked if we wanted to host an official America’s Cup FanZones in March 2021. We thought this was a great opportunity for communities to get behind Emirates Team New Zealand!

Want to help improve road safety on Kawakawa's main street? Would you like to see our township become a pedestrian, cycle and traffic friendly place?

Council has engaged Connected Nation, a US-based non-profit organisation, to lead Connected Northland. Through Connected Northland, Connected National will deliver Drive and Digital Works.
